When, in 1918, José Soares da Costa established himself on the narrow Almada Street in Porto, he could never have imagined that his boldness would give rise to a group of large economical dimensions.

Ninety years after its start as a company that provided high quality finishing services, Soares da Costa is dedicated not only to construction, but to a spectrum of related areas, such as concessions, industry and real estate. The notable presence in international markets (such as the United States and Angola) is one of the brand images of the Group that passed the borders of the Undefeated City (Porto) and of Portugal, presenting completed construction projects in four continents.

The new challenges dictated the end of the family management of organization in 1968, and capital stock was made available to the public in 1986 with quotation on what was then the Lisbon and Porto Stock Exchange. Today, the Group Soares da Costa is one of the 100 largest companies in the construction sector.

From its origins, when there were only 10 laborers, through the present, in which close to 5.500 employees* are registered, Soares de Costa always counted on the most innovative construction methods as a way to gain advantage in a competitive tender. This posture has many large realizations as witness to its success, such as the Macau Airport, and the Light Metro System in the Metropolitan Area of Port.
