Soares da Costa Construction holds the ownership of shares in several companies dedicated to the Group's nuclear activity: the execution of contracts for general construction and civil engineering in Portugal and abroad.
The execution of these projects is the main subject of six companies, the largest of which is Sociedade de Construções Soares da Costa. The strong presence of this sector in the international market (which accounted for 62 percent of total turnover in 2011) allows that the constraints of the Portuguese economy are exceeded.
The main bases of international operation are United States (specifically the state of Florida) and the African Lusophone expression countries. Among them, notably Angola, a country in rapid economic growth where the Group now takes 30 years of uninterrupted presence, which is a trust factor against the competition. The aim is therefore to capitalize the dynamism of the Angola's construction sector which contributed globally in 2011 with 327,6 million euros to consolidated turnnover, decreasing 10.1% over the previous year, and is currently the largest market in terms of activity.
The opportunities are vast, ranging from infrastructure to the real estate segment. The Group's future strategy involves the permanent and consolidated presence in some markets properly selected and constantly prospecting new business. In this context, the Eastern Europe, where there is a great lack of equipment, is a new focus of the Group.
